Rachel Laird (UK) was Post-Graduate student in Autumn 2018 and describes her time at CCDS:

My time at the Copenhagen Contemporary Dance School was more than I could have wished for. It was the perfect transition period, for me, after completing my BA (HONS) at Laban. The Post Graduate Diploma bridged the gap between being a full time dance student and shifting into a professional contemporary dancer. Space and time was given where we could discover what we wanted from the course and what specific avenues we, as individuals, wanted to go down.

Working in the studio with a different professional artist every week constantly pushed us and challenged us not to be comfortable in one style but to be versatile and to be quick. It introduced me to artists working in the profession and allowed me to develop a personal working relationship with them. Artists I would not have met if not for this course and making the choice to move to Copenhagen for four months. Ballet every day really pushed me technically and having 5 different teachers allowed us to focus on different aspects of the same technique with each teacher whether that be performance, core stability, fluidity in arms or glute control. Luckily during my time at the school I was able to be involved in a restaging of a work originally created on Juilliard by Gustavo Ramirez. For two weeks the diploma and post become a company and collectively worked towards putting on a performance.

During my time at CCDS I was mentored by Lotte and Morten on a solo creation which was also professionally filmed on site and in the studio and had professional still shots taken. This allowed us each to concentrate on what work would best display our bodies, capabilities and styles and what work we wanted to produce in the future and take out into the dance scene. There was time also to create a quartet and duet work that was also filmed for personal use. Throughout my time I was supported on how to best prepare myself for auditions for example having website management and having my CV, cover letters and show reel reviewed. The school are so supportive and encouraging.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is in that transition period and wants concentrated time to focus on their physicality, technique, creativity and personal presence that they will take out to auditions or further into their own work.
